Over the years I have used several webinar/video meeting services including Microsoft Teams. Zoom stands out for me as participants can see and chat to me whilst also viewing the powerpoint I am using. I make sure that each webinar/course includes at least two breakout sessions. This allows participants to go into small groups of 4 or 5 and discuss their issues. This seems to be fairly unique within the adoption support/foster carer arena but is often voted as one of the most valuable parts of the webinar.
The facility to have break out rooms for discussions makes the course really friendly and the training experience feels very similar to a live course.
I can visit each break- out room, send each group messages and participants can request help from me whilst in the break out room. Participants benefit from group work and activities together which makes the learning much more effective and much more enjoyable. We can play videos over Zoom and can view the whole class, making it easy for participants to join in and ask questions.
Many people have heard stories of security breaches with Zoom and have used Microsoft Teams instead. I know there were some reported issues early on in lockdown with zoom, which I understand were rectified. Zoom encrypts everything that goes through it and provides the option to only join a meeting with a password, providing an extra layer of security. For Teams, a user needs Microsoft which many apple users won’t have access to. There are often login in issues with free services, some people report not being able to see the powerpoint or in some cases, the service just dropping.
